Vehicles seized in driving crackdown
MORE than 25 vehicles were seized in a police crackdown on drivers in High Wycombe.
Offences included driving without insurance or driving in an anti-social manner.
The operation targetted areas including Green Road, Lucas Road, Totteridge Lane, Hicks Farm Rise and Hillary Road following concerns raised with the area's Neighbourhood Action Group.
A speeding crackdown on August 7 resulted in all motorists travelling above 36 miles per hour being pulled over and given warnings.
The offending drivers were asked what would stop them speeding in the future.
A number of speeding motorists were given £60 fines and three points, while others were reported to court or arrested for driving without a licence or driving while disqualified, police said.
A total of 25 speed indicator device operations have been conducted in Bowerdean and Totteridge since June, in what police describe as a non-threatening way' to encourage drivers to slow down.
Road signs have been put up in Amersham Hill and road markings have been repainted in Green Road to improve safety.
PSCO Emma Buckle said: "We've been working really hard to address the problem priorities that were identified at the NAG meeting and we've been successful in clamping down on speeding and anti-social vehicle use."
She added: "As a team we like to feel we are always on hand to help with any issues the public may have, whether it is tackling problems such as speeding or giving general directions. Feel free to stop us when you see us."

Just goes to show that if more than 25 cars have been removed in these small operations, then there must be hundreds of cars that need removing.
More operations like this please!

meanwhile a 22 year old woman is raped in Wycombe
Oh very well done police - excellent work - not!
Oh and on the spot fines too. A cynical person might think this is a money making exercise.

An uninsured, unlicenced, un-MOT'd driver and car needs to be removed from our streets to protect everyone. I wish people would start seeing this sort of crime as being something that our children are exposed to and at risk from everyday and the more police operations like this then the better. The police should be applauded

if you're a young driver then you are more than likely to be on third party insurance, so if someone else has an accident and we end up involved you're hoping that the other driver is insured, to pay for the damage!
Well done on the Police!

only a warning for up to 36mph??? I wish i had been give for a warning when i got stung on marlow hill a few years back at 33mph - i think its a good idea though - raises awareness, and makes people think about their speed.
Good on them for listening to the residents and doing something about it.
Nb. You dont need speed humps on bowerdean, its so pot holed i can only do 20mph at best!

Unfortunately nothing will stop some people. Losing their licence won't stop them and nor will fines. I guess that's why the police decided to try something harsher.

Wonder how many police officers are trying to catch the armed robbers who hit Chalfont and Beaconsfield recently? Or is driving at 6 mph over the limit more important?

Why warnings? What point is there of a 30mph speed limit if you get off at 36? Don't get me wrong, I drive a bit too fast everywhere, but if I get nicked, it's my fault and I know it. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime and all that. 0 tolerance.

The police are still looking for the armed robbery suspects, why do you bother

I do have to question the intelligence of some people who makes comments here.
It seems to me that people think that there are only 5 police officers in Wycombe and that in some strange way they would have caught a rapist if they'd not been targetting drivers. These type of operations are planned well in advance, they do not take rank and file officers off of the beat (not that there are many of them) as it's costed at overtime rates.

Obviously a copper, or ex-copper, or maybe related to a copper or ex-copper.
Whether you like it or not, most people are fed up with unchecked violent crime, and to add insult to injury the fact that the people paid to protect us are earning fortunes on overtime rates sneaking around in speed vans doesnt help.
Then, just to cap it all off, we are left with the well meaning but powerless plastic police to protct us!
Brilliant!
