Everyone to start from scratch under Taylor
New Blues at training on Tuesday
New Blues at training on Tuesday

WANDERERS boss Peter Taylor has promised to give everyone in his squad the chance to stake their claim for a starting place this season.

The former England caretaker manager welcomed his players and his five new signings back to training on Tuesday and told them there are no favourites or guarantees.

Taylor has been busy over the summer recruiting a fistful of new players with Chris Zebroski, Lewwis Spence, Gavin Grant and John Mousinho all joining the squad which went so close last season.

And, just as importantly, the new gaffer appears to have healed the splits of last season which threatened to rip the club apart.

He has wiped the slate clean with Gary Holt, David McCracken and Scott McGleish - who spoke out against the club in the wake of manager Paul Lambert's shock departure after the play-off semi-final defeat last season.

He says he has got a very happy ship with everyone pulling in the same direction and he singled out Holt, McCracken and McGleish for their attitude at the end of week one of pre-season training.

He said: "I'm very pleased with what I've been seeing. We've had a good first week. The three players mentioned have trained as hard as anyone. They have been really impressive.

"But I am pleased with everyone. There's a very good spirit, the players have returned fit and they are keen to work hard.

"Everyone is working hard and everyone has got a chance. I want to have two players competing for every position and I will be looking at everyone."

Taylor has resisted the temptation to invite the queue of triallists he has got along to the club's training ground, saying he will give the men he's got the chance to stake their claim first.

But he cautioned that if they are not giving him what he needs then triallists could arrive at the training ground.

Taylor has just seven days left before he has to pick his first team, for next Friday's visit to Flackwell Heath.

Winger Derek Duncan won't make that game though. He is training alone with physio Shay Connolloy after picking up a knee injury and joins Sergio Torres (ankle) and Matt Bloomfield (cruciate) in the treatment room.

But central defender Mike Williamson has shrugged off the groin injury that threatened to rule him out of the first week of pre-season.

Taylor said: "He didn't want to miss it and the medical people said he was fine to join in."
