Buckinghamshire 'top UK recycler'
BUCKINGHAMSHIRE residents are now among the most committed to recycling in England, waste chiefs have said.
A recent campaign to encourage householders to recycle has boosted numbers even further, said the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire.
Its chairman said the results were good news for councils, which are charged with recycling household waste by the Government.
They said the number of people "committed" to recycling in the county had risen from 73 to 81 per cent.
This was "significantly higher" than the national average of 57 per cent, said the partnership, which brings together councils in the county.
Food waste collection had gone up by 17 per cent it said - and more than 3,000 new recycling boxes and bins were ordered following the campaign.
And the number of people who said they were coping "quite well" or "very well" with collection schemes had risen from 76 to 92 per cent.
The partnership was given £400,000 by Waste & Resources Action Programme, a Government-funded not-for-profit company, for the campaign.
This saw staff advise 15,000 residents and advertise recycling services.
Councillor Martin Tett, chairman of the partnership's joint waste committee, said: "These are great results and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making Bucks one of the top recycling counties in the country.
"Nevertheless we still need to do more. I have increased our target for recycling of household waste from 45 to 60 per cent.
He added: "We must protect the environment and minimise the amount of rubbish that we send to the landfill where it rots and produces dangerous greenhouse gases.
"Buckinghamshire is leading the way. I am determined that, together, we can make sure it stays there."

I am surprised by this news as in my area no-one bothers to use the recycling boxes any more. Could this story be wishful thinking?
Restore weekly black bin collections now!

Ivor we have to recycle dont you understand that! People who recycle should get money off the council tax its unfair if other counties dont do much when Bucks is doing more than its fair share, now flat owners should start recycling they are big culprits of getting away with it

I had an arguement with the council recently. I want to have recycle bins but they will not provide us with any. We are still on a weekly collection. I bought a bin to put our binsacks in and my rubbish was not collected for two weeks. So I called to complain and it turned out our flats are on a "sack only" collection. Meaning they do NOT empty bins they will only take sacks if they are left by the doors.
I want a recycle collection but they will not budge on this matter. How can I do my bit for the environment if they do not let me?

It surprises me that Martin Tett, a Tory, together with his fellow councillors, is so enthusiastic about a Labour Government policy.

Think how much more recycling would be done if WDC emptied the collection points before they overflowed!

He's also the one who's driving the procuring of the £100million incinerator - also Labour policy.

My area of Wycombe is still without green bins...
Luddites have been moaning about them for years and we still do not have them...!
Remarkable.
And there is still lots of rubbish that goes into 'general' skips that either should not be sold in the first place or should be recycled too.
If we are top, the country is not doing very well...
Come on, Bucks, don't pat yourselves on the back just yet...

WDC should clean the streets as we pay them to do, despite having the supervisor checking out the mess left by council workers, the service road in Tinkers Wood Road is still filthy, last year it cost US the ratepayers for the drains to be cleared. This year weeds are growing on the tarmac.
What has happened to the road sweeping truck?
This week the dustman overturned a wheelie-bin, he left most of the contents on the road and ran off to catch up with the dustcart that couldn't get out of the road fast enough.
FILTHY WYCOMBE IS A POOR ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE TORIES.
The whole of the street cleaning department at WDC should be sacked, they are not putting the environment first.

I tell you what is wrong, they have these bottle recycling banks in Flackwell Heath. They get you to spend your time seperating your bottles into brown, green and clear tanks and then when they are emptied, all bottles go into the same tank on the vehicle.
Why should people waste their time seperating the bottles when they don't seperate them either?
